EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- Marathon Petroleum will host a public meeting next month to address the Aug. 4 incident at the El Paso refinery that spewed thousands of pounds of contaminants into the air.
The company confirmed that it will host a community meeting at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Riverside High School, 301 Midway Dr.

"Marathon Petroleum is committed to sharing information about the Aug. 4 odor incident with our neighbors and answering questions from the community," the company said.
Residents have expressed concern about the incident and have been clamoring for more information.

According to Marathon, the meeting will cover the following areas: details on the incident, including substances released and quantities; on- and off-site impacts including air monitoring and results; results of the company's investigation and cause of the release; changes that have been implemented; and steps taken to improve notification.
City Rep. Josh Acevedo said on social media: "After we pushed for a community meeting, we will finally get a chance to hear straight from Marathon about what happened August 4th and have a chance to ask them questions directly. Join us October 6 for this important meeting."
Marathon confirmed to KTSM that a contractor at the refinery was transported to a medical facility on Saturday, Aug. 29 after being injured during maintenance and repair work being conducted on-site.
"The safety of our personnel and the community are our top priority, and an investigation will be conducted to determine how the injury happened and to identify any corrective actions that may be needed," Marathon said in a statement sent to KTSM.
