A viral "Cat in the Hat" social media trend that resulted in Kentucky school closures, has sparked concern on Treasure Coast.
The trend involves posting pictures and videos of a life-sized version of the Dr. Seuss character lurking outside windows, according to CNN. Anonymous accounts post threatening or unsettling content and sometimes name specific schools or students as the targets they're "coming" for.
The principal of Vero Beach High School, Rachel Finnegan, sent out a voicemail to parents about the online trend.
"While there is no known threat to our schools, we take these reports seriously," the voicemail stated. "Our law enforcement partners are monitoring the situation and are making sure our campuses are safe."
Any students found participating will be disciplined according to the Code of Student Conduct, according to the voicemail.
