ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Across West Virginia, a number of counties have added electric buses to their fleet of vehicles. This includes Randolph County Schools, one of the more recent districts to adopt these new buses.
It's been about a year since these new buses hit the roads of Randolph County. According to Randolph County Schools Director of Transportation Nick Alfred, the new buses are popular among drivers and students.
"It's really nice for the kids and the driver to have two newer buses that are quiet the way these are," Alfred said. "It's also nice that we were able to add two new buses to our fleet."
Randolph County Schools were able to acquire the two buses with the assistance of an "EPA Clean School Bus" grant, which allowed the buses to be purchased for a fraction of what they're worth.

"We paid about a little over $37,000 for these two buses and they were valued at over $750,000," Alfred said.
From the time the two electric buses have been on the road, Alfred said that there have not been any major issues. He also added that electric buses could be what the future holds.
