Severe thunderstorms were moving across Michigan early Thursday, Sept. 3, with warnings in place for mid-Michigan as the storms moved east.
Scattered storms have already entered the state Thursday morning, Sept. 3, shifting west to east in the Lower Peninsula growing in intensity.
At 8:32 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Eaton and Barry counties because of a storm that could produce ping pong ball-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts. The storm was tracking southeast toward Jackson and Ann Arbor.
Other storm cells were in the vicinity of Ludington, Mt. Pleasant and north of Grand Rapids — all moving southeast.
Michigan residents are urged to stay weather-aware throughout the day and night, and to review their weather emergency safety plans.
A heat advisory remains in effect for counties in southern Michigan for heat index values reaching 100 degrees.
