Police are investigating a deadly stabbing that occurred at the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station Friday afternoon.

Officers responded at about 2:05 p.m. Friday to the 12200 block of Frank Modugno Drive to reports of a stabbing, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said a man on a bicycle stabbed another man before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.

AIR7 was over the scene as police established a perimeter in the area to locate the suspect. Several officers were seen in a standoff position at a motel near the train station. Aerial images also showed what appeared to be a man on the ground on the train platform. A white police canopy was later put up around that person.

"The Sylmar/San Fernando station remains open and accessible at this time," Metrolink said in a statement.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the LAPD told Eyewitness News that an adult suspect was in custody and there were no other suspects.

Investigators are working to determine what led to the victim being attacked.

No further details were immediately known.

Some Metrolink riders say they don't always feel safe at that train station.

"Honestly, it's really scary," said Yanira Ramos, a nurse who takes the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink to and from work. "I got here when the medical examiner came and picked up the body itself. There was a bunch of cops and detectives. It was still fenced off. But it's just a lot of stuff going on."

The attack happened in the middle of the day. The station's parking lot was blocked off with crime tape as trains and buses continued dropping off and picking up stunned passengers.

"Oh it's awful because, I knew eventually it was going to happen," said John, a Metrolink user. "The security system is failing."

Riders say they are seeing more homeless people and drug users hang around the area, making them feel unsafe. They are hoping Friday's killing sparks a call to action, urging Metro leaders to improve safety at this terminal.

"Even if you say something, it feels like it lands on deaf ears so you kind of have to watch out for yourself," Ramos said.

The victim in Friday's deadly stabbing has not been identified. Police are asking anyone who saw the attack to give them a call.
