Following several attempts at sabotage of the electricity supply in Germany, a police operation has now also taken place in the eastern state of Saxony, which is said to relate to a similar incident, according to a media report.
The police headquarters in the city of Görlitz on the Polish border confirmed on Friday that an operation was under way. Further details were not initially disclosed "for tactical reasons relating to the investigation." It was merely stated that the operation was taking place north of the town of Bautzen.
The German tabloid Bild reported that explosive and incendiary devices had been found at two substations. According to the report, the substations in question are located on the border between Saxony and Brandenburg in the Lusatian open-cast lignite mining area.
There have recently been attempted acts of sabotage of the energy supply in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. The police are investigating these incidents.
