An early-morning fight in Old Town Scottsdale spiraled into a deadly shooting that left one person dead and another in critical condition.
Officers broke up physical fights in front of two different nightclubs at 1 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 6, Scottsdale police officer Aaron Bolin said in a written statement.
Minutes later, officers responded to reports of a shooting near Saddlebag Trail and Camelback Road. They found two injured victims at the scene at 1:25 a.m. and apprehended the suspect "after a short foot pursuit and tasing," Bolin said.
One of the two shooting victims died at the hospital. The other was in critical condition but seemed to be improving, Bolin said.
Police have identified the suspect as Jeremy La'Twan Campbell Jr., 22.
He was booked into a Maricopa County jail on one count of second degree murder and one count of aggravated assault.
Investigators also found a handgun in the pool of the Best Western hotel along Camelback Road, Bolin said, but police needed to run more tests to confirm whether it was involved in the case.
Police have not publicly identified either of the victims.
