Death investigation underway after body found in Ballona Creek in Playa del Rey, LAPD says

A death investigation is underway after a body was found in the waters of Ballona Creek in Playa del Rey on Monday morning, authorities said.

The grim discovery was made at 8:44 a.m. in the creek near Lincoln and Culver boulevards, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The deceased person was not immediately identified, and the cause of death was under investigation.

Video from AIR7 showed several LAPD and Los Angeles Fire Department vehicles and personnel at the scene, with investigators gathered on a walkway and bike path that passes under the bridge that spans the creek.

The walkway and bike path were closed as the investigation continued.
