A motorcyclist has died after crashing on the Finesilver curve, a notoriously dangerous highway ramp north of downtown San Antonio.
Police said Jeremy Akers, 39, was riding at high speed around 7:30 p.m. Monday when he lost control on the curve, which connects Interstate 35 South to Interstate 10 West. Akers crashed into a retaining wall and fell to the ground below.
Medics pronounced Akers dead at the scene.
The Finesilver Curve has been the site of several deadly crashes since it opened in 1994.
The compound curve, which gets tighter as drivers travel through the ramp, was designed to avoid demolishing more of the neighborhood that sits below. The speed limit drops suddenly from 60 mph to 25 mph, which poses difficulties for drivers who are navigating merging traffic.

The curve poses an especially high risk for drives of 18-wheeler, whose trailers may be overloaded and who may be unfamiliar with the area.
Two big rigs have crashed on the curve this year - in June, an 18-wheeler lost control and rolled over and in January, a big rig carrying a load of bees overturned.
In 2019, the Texas Department of Transportation added warning signs, including flashing lights and speed limit signs, in hopes of preventing crashes.
