A 31-year-old man has been charged with fatally shooting another man on Sept. 6 near Wilmington, New Castle County police said.
Officers responding to the first block of S. Cleveland Ave. in Colonial Heights about 9:10 a.m. Sept. 6 found a 32-year-old man suffering from several gunshot wounds. The man, identified by police as Donald Nave, was provided first aid before being taken to an area hospital where he died.
Detectives were provided with information linking a Chevrolet Sonic to the possible shooter, police said. Using automated license plate readers, county detectives found the Sonic's license plates and who the subcompact crossover SUV was registered to: 31-year-old Hector Sanchez of Wilmington.
Sanchez and Nave had previously been involved in a traffic-related altercation in August, police said.
Armed with an arrest warrant, police took Sanchez into custody just before 7 p.m. Sept. 6.
He has been charged with first-degree murder and a weapons offense and was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post a $1 million cash bail.
