Austin-Travis County EMS confirmed medics transported three people to area hospitals as a result of the crash. Those injured included two children taken in critical condition to Dell Children's Medical Center, as well as one adult transported to St. David's South Austin Medical Center with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The Austin Police Department added in a follow-up social media post Wednesday morning that the following closures are in effect due to the crash:
Southbound I-35 Service Road to East Ben White Boulevard
Entire intersection of Northbound I-35 Service Road to West Ben White Boulevard
Turnarounds from Southbound I-35 to Northbound I-35 Service Road

The Austin Police Department is responding to a major crash along Interstate 35 in South Austin that has shut down the highway in both directions during the morning commute on Wednesday, September 9.
Police officials confirmed the crash in a social media post shared just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, noting a "serious injury" crash spurred the rapid response. The crash has shut down I-35 at Woodward Street and the area around Ben White Boulevard and State Highway 71, officials noted.
Travis County StarFlight, or the Shock Trauma Air Rescue team, is at the crash to transport any impacted patients for medical treatment, APD further confirmed.
"Please expect significant delays in both directions," the social media post added. "Stay tuned for updates."
The exact extent of the crash, including details on the number of vehicles involved or people injured, is not available at this time.
The Texas Department of Transportation's Austin District incidents map confirmed at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, a "major" crash occurred along the SH 71 frontage road at Woodward Street, with all lanes shuttered as a result.
