A dead body has been found in Naples, and investigators do not know who he is or how he died.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office received a call on Monday, Sept. 7 from a witness who was riding an E-bike on the sidewalk in the area of 6750 Golden Gate Parkway, where the Jesus Strong Tower Christian Church and the El Shaddai of Grace Church are located.
The witness told Collier County deputies that he was forced to stop because a white bag was obstructing his riding path. Inside the white bag was a small brown wallet with an Florida Identification card, and a black bike lock. The witness moved the bag into the grass along the sidewalk when he noticed a foul odor in close proximity, according to an incident report.
He then noticed what appeared to be a dead body in the bushes nearby and called law enforcement. The body was that of a white man.
"The male's head was decomposed and black in color," according to the reporting officer's description of the scene. The deceased man was wearing a black shirt, black pants, black shoes and a red watch on his left wrist, the report states.
A black bicycle was found leaning against a tree by the woods alongside the church parking lot.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office has not yet identified the body.
The investigation is ongoing and it remains uncertain whether the deceased individual is a victim of foul play or homicide.
