ProAmpac has supplied packaging for Circle K's launch of Flamin' Hot Boneless Chicken Wings, developed with PepsiCo/Frito-Lay.
The packaging group produced a fibre-based tray for the product, aimed at addressing issues linked to hot food packs, including heat retention, moisture loss, grease resistance and time on heated display.
Circle K was looking for a different way to present the chicken wings while also addressing those performance requirements.
Circle K foodservice vice-president Gary Brant said: "Our goal was to create packaging that worked as hard as the food itself. ProAmpac partnered with us to develop a solution that helps maintain product quality while creating a more compelling presentation for our customers."
ProAmpac said it created a tray matched to the product recipe and serving size.
Using PepsiCo's original brand design as a starting point, the company adapted the pack for production and sought to improve product visibility.
The tray is designed to keep the chicken warm and moist for longer and to provide a clearer view of the contents.
ProAmpac executive vice-president Adam Grose said: "Successful food innovation depends on more than great flavour; it requires packaging that protects product quality from the kitchen to the customer.
"Our collaboration with Circle K demonstrates how thoughtful packaging design can help retailers introduce exciting new menu offerings while improving food quality, shelf presentation, and operational performance."
Separately, in June, ProAmpac commercialised ProActive Intelligence Moisture Protect MP-1000, a packaging film developed with Ozzi for stick-pack formats used in sensitive powdered products.
The film is intended to address moisture-related deterioration in food, health and wellness products.
"ProAmpac delivers packaging for Circle K hot wings" was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand.
