POINT LOOKOUT, Long Island (PIX11) -- On Friday, families will gather at the beachfront in Town Park at Point Lookout for the annual sunrise ceremony to honor the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Nearly 500 Long Islanders lost their lives that day, and many survivors have passed away from 9/11-related illnesses.

The 25th commemoration of the terror attacks will include musical performances, speeches, religious blessings, and the symbolic placing of carnations in the Atlantic Ocean.
People can visit the permanent 9/11 Memorial Park for the Town of Hempstead that bears a 30-foot steel beam from the World Trade Center, and pay tribute to the remembrance wall with victims' names.
The memorial ceremony begins at 7:30 a.m. Friday.
