A tragic situation for a family in north Houston on Friday evening resulted in the death of two men and left another stabbed after a barricade situation escalated into a fire, the Houston Police Department said.
The Houston Police Department said it responded to a call at the 4400 block of North Shepherd Drive at the Garden Oaks Village apartment complex at 4:20 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, officers found one victim with a stab wound in the back.
Police say that the suspect and the victim are brothers. HPD says that an argument ensued between the brothers, which led to the stabbing.
According to authorities, the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment. Additionally, the father of the two brothers, who is disabled, was inside the apartment, HPD said.
Police say that officers thought they heard a gunshot, but saw smoke coming from the apartment. Law enforcement says SWAT units and HFD crews arrived to help extinguish the flames.
Upon arrival at the apartment, authorities discovered the bodies of the 20-year-old suspect and the 59-year-old father. Police say that the 22-year-old victim, who was stabbed, was taken to a local hospital, and he is expected to survive.
According to HPD, two other apartments at the complex were damaged.
Both brothers and their father resided in the apartment together, HPD said. Police say that their mother was not present at the apartment during the incident.
