An investigation is underway after a man was found shot in the East Falls section of Philadelphia on Friday evening.
Police said the 25-year-old victim was discovered around 5:30 p.m. by a Pennsylvania state constable who was providing security services at the Bakers Centre shopping center on the 2800 block of Fox Street.
The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Shortly before the victim was found, investigators said a witness reported seeing a fight inside a black Honda SUV in the rear portion of the shopping center parking lot.
According to police, the constable attempted to intervene, but the Honda and a second vehicle sped away from the scene.
A short time later, officers responded to a report of an abandoned black Honda SUV at a cemetery on the 3200 block of West Clearfield Street in North Philadelphia.
"The ignition was broken and there was a considerable amount of blood," Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said.
Investigators don't have a motive, but they say it's possible this may have been a carjacking and the shooting may have occurred inside the SUV, which was registered to the victim.
This incident happened in broad daylight in close proximity to several stores and shoppers. It's unnerving to neighbors like Esadiva Maven, who was leaving the dollar store, just steps away from the scene.
"You know what they said inside, 'Oh, we're so used to this,' and that's the part that's sad," said Maven.
Authorities said no ballistic evidence has been recovered, and no arrests have been made.
Police are now collecting video from the businesses in the area. They also believe the constable's dashcam captured at least part of the incident.
