A child and an adult were arrested Friday after a student brawl at Mountain View High School in El Monte sparked a second fight between family members after school.

The initial fight, which involved at least six students, broke out around 12:15 p.m. Campus staff broke up the initial fight.

Roughly an hour later, after school was dismissed for the day, family members of the students involved in the fight started a second fight in front of the school on the 2900 block of Parkway Drive, according to the El Monte Police Department.

The school resource officer assigned to Mountain View High School attempted to stop the fight. However, one of the family members allegedly refused to comply with the officer's orders.

"The SRO attempted to detain one of the involved parties, a female adult," El Monte PD said. "The female resisted the officer's lawful action, struggled, and was then forced to the ground by the officer for the purpose of being detained."

The woman was arrested and charged with obstruction. More El Monte Police officers were called to the school and began separating the fighting families.

During the investigation, a child was also arrested for their involvement in the fight and an assault on a school staff member. The child was booked and released into the care of their parents.

None of the students or adults involved in the fights suffered serious injuries. No guns or other weapons were used during the fights, police said. Video of one of the fights is allegedly circulating on social media.

"The Department is aware that a portion of the incident was captured on video and has been shared via social media and other outlets," El Monte PD said.

The investigation into the fights is ongoing. Anyone with information about the fights is asked to contact the El Monte PD watch commander at (626) 580-2109.

Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can call "Crime Stoppers" at (800) 222-8477.
