A Detroit man was arrested Sunday in Ohio after allegedly leading Monroe County sheriff's deputies on a car chase, officials said.
Deputies were called at about 6 a.m. Sunday to a location on the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near South Otter Creek Road in LaSalle Township for a report of a vehicle stopped in the center lane, according to authorities.
They arrived and found the vehicle parked in the roadway, officials said. As a deputy inspected the vehicle for occupants, its driver shifted the car into gear and sped away, police said.
Officers gave chase on southbound I-75 for about nine miles but terminated the pursuit at the Michigan-Ohio state line, the sheriff's office said.
Toledo police waited at the state line for the vehicle and took over the pursuit, officials said. They stopped the vehicle shortly after it entered Ohio and took the driver into custody for suspicion of drunken driving.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said it plans to seek felony charges for fleeing and eluding. They are not releasing the name of the suspect until he is formally charged.
The incident follows others involving a car chase with police in Michigan.
Last month, a Detroit man was shot by police after allegedly leading authorities on a car chase through three cities and wounding two Dearborn officers during a gunfight.
Another man was shot by police in Ecorse after he struck an officer with his vehicle and led authorities on a car chase before being arrested.
In July, a South Lyon man accused of leading authorities on a chase through multiple communities and ramming a vehicle into police cars was charged.
