San Antonio residents who find a lost dog or cat can now scan the animal for a microchip at eight fire stations across the city. Three additional stations are planned as locations become available.
Animal Care Services and the San Antonio Fire Department have partnered to provide free, self-service scanning stations outdoors, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Each station includes instructions on how to safely contain and scan an animal. If a chip is detected, the instructions explain how to look up the microchip number and begin contacting the pet's family.

Station 44, 1351 Horal Drive
There are a few important things residents should know: Fire personnel cannot assist with handling or scanning animals. The stations are not animal-intake, surrender or overnight-holding locations, and residents should never leave an animal unattended at a fire station.
Injured, aggressive or otherwise unsafe-to-handle animals should be reported to 311.
People can also take found animals to Animal Care Services' main campus at 4710 Texas 151 to have them scanned.
