BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested after being accused of shooting into an occupied home.
According to an affidavit, on March 22, officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department were called to Lexington Drive about a shooting.
When they arrived, officers learned that one person was shot and was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. While headed to the hospital, the vehicle stopped in the 2600 block of Yorktown Drive, where they were met by medical personnel.
While processing the scene, BRPD detectives found five spent .40 shell casings near the back of the home on Lexington Drive. They learned the victim was asleep on the sofa when multiple shots were fired.
At the time of the shooting, five people were inside the home, records show.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area. According to the video, three masked Black men approached the rear of the home. The three then fired multiple rounds into the home before fleeing the area.
During the investigation, detectives developed Jason Hayes Jr. as a possible suspect in the shooting. It was later discovered that Hayes reportedly had an ongoing conflict with a family member of one of the occupants in the home. Detectives also developed a suspect by the nickname "Baby Dee."
After an interview, a witness positively identified Hayes and "Baby Dee." The witness confirmed that "Baby Dee" is a former colleague and friend of Hayes. They also stated that "Baby Dee" posted a video on social media wearing the same clothes as in the surveillance footage.
On May 7, detectives filed for a search warrant for Hayes' cell phone. While reviewing records, detectives found several photos on the phone that depict a Black male wearing clothes consistent with "Baby Dee's" outfit the day of the shooting. The male was also posing with a firearm.
BRPD detectives learned that "Baby Dee" had a brother. After reviewing BRPD databases, detectives found police reports involving the brother and a man identified as Alexander Allen Jr. The photographs from Hayes' phone determined that the man in the photo was Allen.
Allen was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of five counts of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and aggravated criminal damage to property.
