Here are more events to celebrate America's 250th birthday this year
If you are feeling the patriotic vibe of the semiquincentennial, even after all of the Independence Day celebrations, there are plenty of ways to mark the occasion of the country's 250th in the second half of the year.
From historical re-enactments to lectures to concerts to even more fireworks, this list is chock full of events happening throughout North Jersey (in date order), and we will continue to add to it as the year goes on, so be sure to keep coming back to check.

Allendale: The Ministers of Apollo - Erik and Eliza Lichack, dressed in authentic period clothing - will perform popular music that inspired a revolution, showcasing original 18th century music books performed on a reproduction harpsichord, 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Lee Memorial Library. The event is free, but registration is required. Library card holders will be given priority.
Wanaque: DJ Joey Dee Patriotic Music in the Park, 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 13. Celebrate our 250th anniversary and listen to patriotic music. Hot dogs and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Wear your favorite patriotic outfit, bring a bathing suit and a towel.
Hackensack: The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation invites the public to participate in the special 'Giant Puppets Workshop Series' led by artists from the internationally acclaimed Processional Arts. The puppets created in the workshop series from Aug. 14 through Aug. 19 will be featured in a giant puppet parade marching down Main Street in Hackensack in Illumination 250, an all-day arts festival taking place on Oct. 3 to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. Byram: Celebrate America's 250th with a slideshow history of the township and Sussex County at the 2026 Byram Fest, 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 22 at C.O. Johnson Field, 117 Roseville Road. The event will feature food trucks, inflatable rides, nonprofit organizations, a petting zoo, DJ music, a face painter, fireworks, a photo booth, the library bookmobile, Uncle Sam on stilts, Ben Franklin storytelling, Patriotic Mickey and Minnie, and more. Washington Public Library (Bergen County): Celebrate Women's History and America 250 with "Eyewitness to the Revolution," 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 27 at Township of Washington Public Library, 144 Woodfield Road. Carol Simon Levin will portray Catharine "Caty" Greene, the wife of Nathanael Greene, one of George Washington's most valued officers. This witty raconteur enlivened the spirits of officers and troops as the war ranged from New Jersey to South Carolina. Free with registration. Presented by Bergen250.

Newark, Harriet Tubman Square: "Revolutionary Newark in the Park: History and Remembrance," 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 19, is a walking tour of Harriet Tubman Square (formerly Washington Park) presented by the Newark History Society. Gather at the Newark Academy monument, where Jim Coe will describe the founding of the school in 1774 and the burning of the school building (then used as militia barracks) during a British raid on January 25, 1780. Guy Sterling will then discuss the statue of George Washington bidding farewell to his troops at Rocky Hill, by Scottish-American sculptor J. Massie Rhind.
Allendale parade and celebration: The parade through downtown, beginning at noon Sept. 19, will include with music, floats, a horse and carriage, face painting, and performers. Following the parade, the Allendale Holiday Observers will host a celebration, 1 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Red Barn in Crestwood Park, with living history reenactors, carnival games, pony rides, live music, food vendors, and a beer and wine garden. Free admission for Allendale residents and guests.
Allendale fireworks: The new date for the Holiday Observer Fireworks show is 8:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Crestwood Lake (bring your original ticket for entrance).
Allendale library concert series: "The Beat of America: 250 Years of Music" is a concert series at the Lee Memorial Library, featuring Alex Prizgintas' "America: Songs of Patriotism, Praise & Protest," 7 p.m. Sept. 30.
Glen Rock: Pops at the Arboretum at 4 p.m. Sept. 19 (rain date is Sept. 20) and four History of Glen Rock Trolley Tours, 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 27.

Glen Rock: Learn how wetlands were used by Colonial Bergen County farmers, presented by the Friends of the Arboretum at 2 p.m. Oct. 18.
New Milford: Tour the Historic French Burying Ground, the oldest cemetery in Bergen County and the final resting place of nine Revolutionary War patriots, at 7 p.m. Oct. 22, then stay for "Ghost Stories of the American Revolution."
Allendale: "The Beat of America: 250 Years of Music" is a concert series at the Lee Memorial Library, featuring Rhonda Denét's "Divas of American Music," 7 p.m. on Oct. 27.
Hasbrouck Heights: "George Washington Slept Here: How His Brief Stay in Barbados Had Major Implications a Quarter of a Century Later for Fledgling America," 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Hasbrouck Heights Public Library, 320 Boulevard.
Newark Public Library: The Newark History Society will offer a free presentation by Dr. Timothy Crist, "November 1776: When the Revolution Came to Newark," 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in the James Brown Room at Newark Public Library, 5 Washington St., co-sponsored by NJPAC.
Fort Lee and River Edge: In November of 1776, four months after the signing of the Declaration, British troops invaded New Jersey at Fort Lee, starting a seven-year struggle throughout the state that wouldn't conclude until 1783. Witness the 250th anniversary reenactment of the invasion of Fort Lee at 9 a.m. Nov. 21 (featuring music, cooking, artillery demonstrations, and more) at Fort Lee Historic Park, and Washington's "Retreat to Victory" through New Bridge, 1201 Main St., River Edge, at 4 p.m. that would lead to the famous Crossing a month later.
