Ready or not, it's time to start looking for your next Halloween costume.

With most of August still ahead, at least one sign of fall has already arrived in Milwaukee: Spirit Halloween has opened locations across the city.

The popular costume store doesn't have any permanent locations. Instead, it opens pop-up stores during the holiday season. In 2026, Spirit plans to open the most stores nationwide in company history, with 1,575 stores, up from 1,546 in 2025, USA TODAY reported.

Spirit opened its first store in 1983 at the Castro Valley Mall in California. Now, the Halloween retailer looks to place its stores in locations with more than 35,000 people within a 3- to 5-mile radius.

There are a handful of locations already operating in the Milwaukee area.
