Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of preparing another mass mobilization drive following September's parliamentary elections, during his daily evening address on Tuesday.
Zelensky said Russian President Vladimir Putin was planning to recruit several hundreds of thousands of Russians by the end of the year, "plus just as many more next year," citing intelligence information and internal Russian documents.
Russia's parliamentary elections are scheduled for September 18 to 20.
On Monday, the Russian Supreme Court barred the opposition Yabloko party, the only faction that openly campaigned for an end to the war in Ukraine, from participating, citing alleged violations of electoral law.
It was not possible to independently verify Zelensky's claims.
Kiev has repeatedly accused Moscow in the past of preparing a new wave of mobilizations, which never materialized.
However, observers have also been speculating whether Moscow might launch another mass recruitment drive following September's elections.
Some 300,000 men were drafted during the last major drive more than six months after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
