A small aircraft registered in Germany crashed in Croatia's Velebit mountains near the coastal city of Zadar on Friday, killing both people on board.
Croatian police said on Friday that the wreckage of the motor glider and the bodies of its two passengers were found after a lengthy search in difficult terrain.
The authorities initially gave no details on the nationality or identity of the two victims.
The two-seat aircraft, a Diamond HK36 Super Dimona, was travelling from the Czech Republic to Zadar. Contact with the aircraft was lost on Friday afternoon after 4 pm (1400 GMT).
Civil defence teams, fire brigades and mountain rescue services launched a comprehensive search and rescue operation.
Based on the registration number given by Croatian police, the aircraft was registered in Germany. The Czech Foreign Ministry said the victims were not Czech citizens.
