A woman living in Atlanta's Virginia Highland neighborhood says she no longer feels safe in her own home after a man was repeatedly caught on camera lingering near the apartment complex and looking into first-floor windows.

Sophia J. says the first incident happened June 17.

She says she had just come out of her bathroom and walked into her bedroom when she noticed someone outside her window.

"I see something out of the corner of my eye, and I turn, and he's in the bottom right corner with his phone recording me," Sophia told Channel 2's Brittany Kleinpeter.

Sophia says the man was standing in an alleyway behind the complex, holding a phone and looking toward the windows.

After the first incident, a neighbor installed a camera near the fence. Sophia says additional cameras have since been added as residents documented what they believe are repeated appearances by the same man.

"We've seen him on multiple occasions to get up on tip-toes to get a better look," Sophia said.

Sophia says the man returned in July and was seen again most recently Sunday, when she says he came back twice within about an hour.

"Left and change outfits, had a different pair of pants on and came back," added Sophia.

Sophia says residents have shared surveillance footage with Atlanta police as investigators work to identify the man.

She says she hopes making the surveillance video public will help lead to an identification.

"I want to use this opportunity as a platform to put his face out there, to know that he should feel uncomfortable," Sophia said. "And to be able to figure out who he is."

Residents say they have increased surveillance around the complex and are asking management about additional security measures.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to apartment management for comment about the reported incidents and asked what steps are being taken to support residents and improve security. We have not yet received a response.

Sophia says she wants other residents to be aware of what has been happening and to report any suspicious activity around their homes.
