WORCESTER — With the police chief promising, "We will not stop until we find her," authorities are continuing the search for Karen Solomon over the weekend.

The 58-year-old woman is a suspect in the death of her husband, Kurt Solomon, 57, a Worcester police officer for more than three decades.

His body was discovered early Tuesday, Aug. 18., with his wife soon becoming the focus on an extensive manhunt. Her whereabouts have remained a mystery, with authorities releasing no updates as of the morning of Saturday, Aug. 22.

"Kurt was a hell of a guy. He was an awesome police officer and an awesome person, and he's going to be truly missed," Police Chief Paul Saucier said at a news conference the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 21. "The Worcester Police Department is hurting right now, and we're hoping we can bring closure to the family."

The killing of the off-duty officer and the search for his wife have been the subject of much news coverage and speculation. Authorities believe she may be in or around Coes Pond, the focus of the multi-day search.

The search effort has included divers, tracking dogs and helicopters. A warrant for the arrest of Karen Solomon has been issued.

The city announced that it is closing Coes Pond Parks and Stearns Tavern until further notice due to the search for Karen Solomon.

The closure impacts Coes Pond Beach, also known as Binienda Beach; Columbus Park, including the Columbus Park Boardwalk; Knights of Columbus Park; and Coes Park Playground (Coes Knife), as well as Stearns Tavern.

Meantime, plans are in place for Officer Solomon's funeral. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
