Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union said a disruption affecting its web and digital services began over the weekend and continued into Tuesday, leaving members unable to access some online banking functions and prompting visits to local branches for in-person transactions.
A credit union spokesperson said member accounts have not been compromised, but digital and web services remain unavailable.
The spokesperson did not characterize the incident as a hack and said additional information is expected to be released later.
The disruption has affected the credit union's mobile app, which is generating error messages for users.
Some credit union web links are directing users to a message stating that the institution's domain is for sale on GoDaddy.com.
Records indicate the domain appears to be under the control of an individual who may be based in Saudi Arabia.
As online services remained unavailable, members turned to branch locations to conduct banking business.
Taurena Williams of Overbrook was among those affected.
"It kept saying I had an error message. So I came here to see what was going on," Williams said.
Azad Toori of Broomall said he was unaware of the issue when he arrived at a Havertown branch Tuesday morning. He described himself as "old school" in his approach to banking.
"I am old-fashioned. I just come here and deposit checks. I don't even have a debit card," Toori said.
Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union operates more than a dozen branches in Pennsylvania and nearby areas.
According to the credit union, phone banking and branch services have not been affected. The institution is advising members to use those options while it works to restore digital services.
The timeline for restoring online services remains unclear. The credit union also said it is not aware of reports from some members on Facebook who said they had been instructed to change their passwords before the disruption occurred.
Questions also remain about the cause of the outage and whether the disruption resulted from a hack. The credit union has not identified any party as responsible.
