An inmate serving a life sentence without parole is accused of making a bomb threat against an Atkinson County school last week, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The GBI said it is investigating the threat, which was reported Friday, August 21. The Atkinson County School Police Chief requested the GBI investigate.

Investigators said preliminary information indicates Kendall Alfonzo Stevens, 37, originally from Savannah, made the threat. Stevens is currently incarcerated at Telfair State Prison, where he is serving a life-without-parole sentence.
The GBI said the investigation indicates Stevens made the threat in an attempt to disrupt school operations.
"We have the phone that called in the bomb threat," Sheriff David Moore said in a social media post Monday. "We know that an inmate in GA Dept of Corrections custody made the call."
At the time, Moore said investigators knew the suspect's identity but could not release the name because of the ongoing investigation.

The GBI said once its investigation is complete, the case file will be turned over to the Alapaha District Attorney's Office for review.
The sheriff's office also said there was a separate incident involving an alleged threat made by a juvenile on TikTok.
Officials have not released additional details about that incident, and it is separate from the bomb threat investigation involving Stevens.
The sheriff's office has acknowledged widespread concern among parents following the threats, but said investigators cannot release all information while the cases remain active.
