A 17-year-old was arrested in Salinas Thursday in connection with a deadly July shooting at a party near Morgan Hill.
The July 25 shooting killed one person and injured six others at a pop-up birthday party at Hale and Miramonte avenues, an unincorporated area outside of Morgan Hill. Officers responded to the scene around 10:15 p.m. after receiving reports of intoxicated people on the street and arrived to find more than 300 people fleeing the area after gunshots were fired.
One man died at the party and six others wounded were transported to local hospitals.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said officers arrested the teenager at a home in Salinas after a monthlong investigation along with the FBI. The sheriff's office announced earlier this month it was offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of a suspect.
Authorities said numerous tips, videos and photos were sent to the FBI's online tip line, which helped detectives identify the suspected shooter. The suspect's name, gender and other identifying factors were not released due to their age.
"We're deeply grateful to the community members who stepped forward and shared what they knew," Sheriff Robert Jonsen said in a statement Thursday. "Their willingness to speak up, along with the collaborative efforts of our law enforcement partners and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, has helped move this case closer to justice for the victims and their families."
The suspect will face charges at a detention hearing Monday at the Santa Clara County Juvenile Justice Courthouse in San Jose.
