Several San Antonio businesses were closed on Saturday after a Friday night storm caused extensive damage across the city.
The storm brought the heaviest recorded rainfall for the month of August. It downed trees and power lines, leaving thousands of residents without electricity. Businesses across the city have announced closures on social media as they assess damage and begin cleaning up.
Before heading out to your favorite restaurant today, try checking their websites to make sure they are open. CPS Energy has said it may take several days before power is restored to some areas.
The Cove, a restaurant in Five Points known for its locally-sourced ingredients, announced on Instagram that it would remain closed "until further notice." The restaurant said it was still without power and that many of its signs were "living their best lives around San Antonio." Photos showed large sections of the restaurant's patio fencing ripped out and scattered across the ground.
M.K. Davis, also in Five Points, announced it had no power and "would not be open at all today."
Pico de Gallo in the Historic Market Square similarly announced on Instagram they were without power and will be closed on Saturday. Fat Tummy's Empanadas on W. Commerce Street also posted on Facebook that they're closed due to a power outage.
On the West Side, Gilberts Mexican Restaurant is also closed due to a power outage.
"Not only are we closed but all the food is currently being thrown out," Gilberts owner Ashley Herrera wrote on Facebook. "We are definitely going to need your help, San Antonio, when the power is restored."
Panifico Bakeshop, a panaderia near Navarro Park, also was without power and will be closed Saturday, according to an Instagram post.
Silhouette Coffee posted an Instagram story featuring a photo of the CPS outage map, writing the situation was "not looking good" and that the business would close Saturday unless "things magically come back on."
In a post on X, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones said the Bazan, Las Palmas and San Pedro libraries were without power. The three branches are the only public library locations not currently serving as cooling centers for residents without air conditioning, and Jones said she will provide updates when they reopen.
University Health's downtown Robert B. Green Campus also delayed all operations until its power restores, according to a Facebook post.
The city's Animal Care Services was also without power and pleading for the public's help to temporarily foster cats and dogs. Since the facility is without a phone, they were asking those interested in fostering to drop by the campus at 4710 Texas 151. They were worried about the animals since the kennels are without airconditioning.

Morgan's Wonderland, the theme park in Northeast San Antonio, posted that it will be closed on Saturday as a result of the storm.
Santikos Entertainment similarly said in an Instagram post that it is closed due to a power outage. The company said they will update their Facebook page when the theater can reopen.
