Two people have been named as persons of interest more than 30 years after a model went missing in Australia.
Revelle Balmain was 22 years old when she disappeared on Nov. 5, 1994 from the Kingsford area of Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) Police previously said. The release also confirmed that officials were offering an around $702,000 reward ($1 million AUD) for any information that could help solve the case.
After the case went cold for decades, NSW Deputy State Coroner Joan Baptie has now ruled that Balmain is dead, 9 News reported.
On the night she vanished, the model had been working as an escort in Sydney. It's believed that her former bosses, Jane King and Zoran Stanojevic, who ran and operated the agency she worked for, may have been involved in her disappearance, the Sydney Morning Herald reported, citing Baptie.
Both King and Stanojevic, who have been named as persons of interest, have denied involvement in the case, the Sydney Morning Herald stated. The findings were handed down at the NSW Coroners Court on Friday, July 31.
"They either knew who was responsible for Balmain's disappearance or were somehow involved," Baptie said, per the outlet.
Despite Baptie claiming the former couple's evidence was "littered" with inconsistencies, there was not enough evidence to refer the case to the prosecution office, the newspaper and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.
Baptie did, however, refer the matter back to NSW Police's unsolved homicide unit for further investigation, the Sydney Morning Herald noted. King and Stanojevic have not been charged, per the outlet.
Balmain's sister, Suellen Simpson, previously spoke about how her disappearance had caused immeasurable grief to the family over the past three decades.
"For many years, our family worked tirelessly to find out what happened to my sister – but sadly both our mother and Revelle's father, Ivor, passed away without ever knowing what happened to their little girl," Simpson said in the police release.
"Losing someone that is close to you – you're never the same person again," she added.
Simpson said it was her "personal hope" that the previous police reward for information would help them find Balmain "so that I may finally put her to rest."
Balmain had seen a client, Gavin Samer, on the evening she went missing and he had dropped her back at a hotel at around 7 p.m. local time, according to 9 News.
Balmain was then meant to attend another job at 10 p.m. with two friends of Stanojevic's, who were allegedly involved in the Yugoslavian mafia, King had said, per the outlet. However, the model ended up canceling.
Balmain had reportedly planned to say farewell to her friends on the evening of her disappearance as she was due to fly to Japan to pursue a career as a dancer, 9 News reported.
A companion, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said at the court hearing that Balmain had failed up show up for the gathering, per The Sydney Morning Herald.

Balmain was reported missing later that night, the previous police release said. She also never arrived to meet her mother at the train station the following morning, the Sydney Morning Herald noted.
The missing model's personal items, including a makeup bag, keys and a shoe, were later found scattered near Ainslie Street, police added.
Reports from the evening that Balmain was last seen suggested a dark-colored Holden Commodore had been spotted in the Kingsford area where she disappeared, per 9 News. The sound of a woman's scream had allegedly been heard, before the vehicle sped off from the scene, the outlet noted.
Gavin Samer, who Balmain had seen on the evening of her disappearance, is also a person of interest in the case, the ABC stated, citing Baptie. She admitted it was a "failure" by police to consider Samer as the only person of interest, the outlet reported.
"Mr. Gavin Samer became a major person of interest in the police investigation and the first inquest [and] remained person of interest this inquest," Baptie said, per the ABC.
However, she said that while Samer, who she claimed had scratches to his neck and chest and a possible bite mark, was an "obvious suspect," others had potentially been overlooked amid the ongoing investigation, the outlet stated.
"Problems that marred this investigation through the years remained anchored to the conclusion that Mr. Samer was the only suspect," Baptie said.
The NSW Coroners Court didn't immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
