Over the state line, Chautauqua County community members had the chance to safely get rid of household hazardous waste on Saturday.
The drop-off event at the Chautauqua County, New York, Department of Public Facilities accepted items like antifreeze, paint thinner, pool chemicals, pesticides and oil-based paint.

Locals could drive up and drop off their hazardous household materials for a quick, safe disposal, benefiting them and their community.
Officials said properly disposing of these materials helps protect people, pets and the environment.
"It just helps it from not going into the ground when you go to the landfill, trying to keep the groundwater clean, as clean as possible," said Debbie McKenna, project manager and chemist for North Ward Environmental Services.
Saturday was the county's last hazardous waste collection event of 2026. Officials hope to resume collection again next year.
