EVANSVILLE — The city is in a heat advisory through Friday of this week with temperatures set to be in at least the upper 90s each day.

The hottest day is expected to be Thursday, when the air temperature will reach 100 degrees and the heat index could climb to 106 degrees.

It's important for people who will be out in the heat to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness. This includes drinking water and taking breaks in a cool location.

Here's a list of locations open as cooling centers now. Residents can also call 211 to find resources.

Central Library is open to the public as a cooling center during regular business hours. Visitors must follow the library code of conduct while on site.

Monday - Thursday: 9 a.m. 8 p.m.

EVPL East at 840 E. Chandler Ave. is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday - Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

EVPL McCollough at 5115 Washington Ave. is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

EVPL North Park at 960 Koehler Drive is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

EVPL Oaklyn at 3001 Oaklyn Drive is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

EVPL Stringtown at 2100 Stringtown Road is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

EVPL West at 2000 W. Franklin St. is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Evansville Rescue Mission offers a cooling center during daytime hours in connection with its summer contingency plan. Guests can stay in the atrium and standard conduct rules apply.

Men, women and kids are welcome when temperatures exceed 90 degree.

United Caring Services is open to adults and children during daytime hours.
