(NewsNation) — Chipotle has announced chili lime chips are available on its menu for the first time.

In a statement, the Mexican grill chain said the new addition was available to Chipotle Rewards members as of Monday, Aug. 31, before becoming available to the wider public Friday, Sept. 4.

The new chips coincide with the return of pollo asado to its restaurants in the United States and Canada, which can be purchased by all customers as of Monday.

Pollo asado is returning for a limited time, according to Chipotle, and consists of grilled adobo chicken seasoned with garlic, Mexican spices, cilantro, citrus and lime.

Chipotle said the cchililime chips are a creation of its own in response to viral trends where customers have used seasoned chips with their meals.

"With this new recipe, we wanted to bring more brightness and dimension to Pollo Asado while preserving its savory, smoky flavor," Nevielle Panthaky, Chipotle's senior vice president of culinary, said in the release.

"The citrus finish cuts through the smoky notes of the chicken and naturally complements the tangy, spiced seasoning of our Chili Lime Chips."
