A Thurston County deputy has been shot after responding to a domestic violence call in Rainier.

According to Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders, shortly after deputies arrived, a person in crisis was asked to wait outside while medics responded, but instead the person locked themselves inside the house.

When deputies tried to get inside, shots were fired at them through the door. One deputy was injured and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

A second deputy returned fire before both deputies retreated. The suspect is not yet in custody. Thurston County SWAT is on scene.

This is a developing story; more information will be provided as it becomes available. KIRO 7 has a crew en route.
