AUSTIN (KXAN) — Students at Anderson High School were sent home early Tuesday due to A/C issues at the building.
In a letter to the Anderson community, Principal Brian Lancaster said the school's chiller was cooling only 40% of the building.
Lancaster said the main academic building had the most issues, and classroom temperatures were reaching the low-to-mid 80s.

"To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we will release students at 12:15 p.m. so the Austin ISD Facilities Maintenance team and our HVAC contractor can immediately shut down power to the building to install a new breaker to support a 400-ton rental chiller to support the entire campus moving forward," Lancaster said in the letter.
The rental chiller was expected to be installed overnight, and the campus expects to be open Wednesday.
"Thank you for your patience this week. I know this isn't ideal, especially with the Texas heat. We're focused on working closely with the Austin ISD Facilities Maintenance and Construction Management team to address these issues," Lancaster said in the letter.
