Out of an abundance of caution, Michigan State University says it is temporarily closing Berkey Hall to allow law enforcement to assess a potential threat.
"There is no indication of a threat to the broader campus at this time. The university is working closely with law enforcement and will continue to provide updates as we are able," the university said in a notice shared with students just after 6 a.m.
Classes at the building have been moved online.
Neighboring the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Berkey Hall Houses the University's College of Social Science, the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research, and the Department of Sociology.
Berkey Hall – alongside the MSU Union – was the site of a 2023 mass shooting in which five students were injured and three students were killed.
