LANSING — Thousands of utility customers in Greater Lansing lost electrical service on Thursday, Sept. 3, as severe storms rolled through the area — the vast majority of them in southern Eaton County and eastern Ingham County.
Consumers Energy was reporting nearly 1,400 customers in Eaton County without power around 10 a.m. Most of those were in the Bellevue area, according to the utility's outage map. The map later showed about 280 customers in the DeWitt area also were in the dark.
Meanwhile, at one point on Thursday morning, DTE Energy reported about 3,000 customers without power in the Williamston and Webberville areas, including more than 1,900 in Williamston. But DTE's outage map showed only 90 customers in Williamston without power as of 10:35 a.m.
DTE was reporting a large number of outages in Livingston County.
The Lansing Board of Water & Light had about 19 customers without power around 10 a.m., according to its outage map. That number had risen to about 90 by about 10:35 a.m.
Storms are expected to continue in the region throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.
