After a GoFundMe campaign for Lindsay Clancy's parents surpassed $1 million in August, more users have started to create fundraisers related to Clancy.
A search of Lindsay Clancy's name on GoFundMe's site pulls up multiple fundraising campaigns, both in support of Clancy and against, including one titled, "Lindsay Clancy is an awful person!"
Some of the fundraisers mimic the original GoFundMe campaign for Clancy's parents, with minor changes to the title and description of the campaign. Others are against the original campaign entirely, with one fundraiser being named, "Against The Musgrove Family Fund."
"What bothers me is seeing so much financial support and public sympathy directed toward the people who have chosen to dedicate themselves to supporting Lindsay, while it can feel as though the victims themselves are becoming an afterthought," the description for the fundraiser reads.
One fundraiser in support of Clancy started by a user from Lansing, Michigan, claims they are raising money for the Connecticut native because she is "both family and a friend to me."
The majority of the fundraisers naming Clancy had received no donations as of Friday and were created in August, with the oldest potentially questionable fundraiser related to Clancy dating back to Aug. 14.
Aside from the campaign for Clancy's parents, the only fundraiser related to the Clancy case that had received a monetary donation as of Friday is one in support of Clancy's defense attorney Kevin Reddington. The fundraiser claims Reddington is doing "pro bono work" for Clancy and aims "to support Kevin directly for the time, legal fees, and effort he is giving so generously." One anonymous donor gave $50 to the GoFundMe.
Reddington told The Boston Globe in 2023 that "every nickel that's been spent on (Clancy's) defense has come from her parents."
GoFundMe said in an email to CT Insider Friday that they were "reviewing" fundraisers related to Clancy.
"We are continuing to monitor the platform and reviewing related fundraiser starts. Any found to be in violation of our terms of service will be removed," GoFundMe stated.
