An armed man threatened a family and held a woman against her will during an hourslong standoff in South Austin early Saturday, according to the Austin Police Department.
The department responded to a call reporting a gunshot just before 11 p.m. on Friday in the 5700 block of Sunset Ridge, officials said in a social media post.
The call reported a male suspect "brandishing a firearm, threatening family members and not allowing a female victim to leave the residence." APD did not specify the relationship between the suspect, victim or other family members at the scene.
APD officer Austin Zarling said during a Saturday early morning press conference that, based on the nature of the call, the agency requested SWAT to respond to the incident.
The agency said the female victim was able to leave the residence while the suspect remained barricaded. The suspect was eventually located and the standoff ended.
Austin police officials did not respond to a request for further comment.
