Driver strikes man crossing street in Fremont, police say

A 60-year-old died Monday after he was struck by a car while crossing Stevenson Boulevard in Fremont, police said Tuesday. 

The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau identified him on Tuesday as David Elliot, according to the East Bay Times. His city of residence was not known. 

The Fremont Police Department responded around 4:15 a.m. to a report of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian on Stevenson Boulevard, just west of Marietta Drive, police said. 

Elliot was reportedly walking east on Stevenson Boulevard near the center median when the driver hit him with the front left portion of the vehicle, police said. 

Elliot was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries, police said. 

Fremont police said a preliminary investigation suggests alcohol was not suspected to have contributed to the collision. The driver, who was not identified, remained after the crash and cooperated with traffic investigators, police said.
