WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — More Kansas schools are now in the running for a $1 million football field transformation.
On Tuesday, T‑Mobile announced that Kiowa County High School (Greensburg) and Spearville High School have been added to the competition and have each received $5,000 in funding.
According to T‑Mobile, the schools were randomly selected through the company's Friday Night 5G Lights $5K Fridays sweepstakes, a national competition celebrating small‑town football and community pride.

In 2007, an EF5 tornado devastated Kiowa County. Now, systems and equipment at the district's athletic facilities are nearing the end of their lifespans. With limited resources for upgrades, the district's activities and transportation director applied for the rebuild.
"If selected, funding would support critical improvements such as a new scoreboard, additional permanent seating, and track repairs to improve safety, enhance the fan and athlete experience, and help the school continue hosting championship-level events for communities across Kansas," T-Mobile said.
Spearville is looking to create a field that reflects the pride of its small, hardworking community.
"If selected, funding would help upgrade the football field for both high school and middle school athletes, inspiring the next generation while bringing new energy, school spirit and community pride to Friday nights in Spearville," T-Mobile said.

Kiowa County and Spearville join several other Kansas high schools that have been selected so far:
Garden City High School (Garden City)
Cimarron High School (Cimarron)
Columbus Jr/Sr High School (Columbus)
Southeast High School (Cherokee)
Uniontown High School (Uniontown)
Baldwin High School (Baldwin City)
Central Heights High School (Richmond)
Maur Hill Mount Academy (Atchison)
Riverside High School (Wathena)
In addition to the grand prize, $25,000 will be awarded to 40 finalists and $250,000 to four division champions. The top 40 finalists will be announced Oct. 8, with public voting open through Oct. 25. The grand prize winner will be announced Nov. 12.
Weekly $5K Fridays winners will continue through September. So far, 72 Kansas high schools have applied. Eligible schools can still apply at FridayNight5GLights.com through Sept. 18.
