Police say Samuel Jerome Andrews, 71, opened fire in a Mississippi AT&T store, killing two people
Victims of the shooting included a 31-year-old employee and a 78-year-old customer, according to local authorities
Andrews was later arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene, police said
A 71-year-old Mississippi man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at an AT&T store that left two people dead.
Samuel Jerome Andrews of Harrison County faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of shooting a firearm into a group, according to online jail records viewed by PEOPLE on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
It is not immediately known if Andrews has retained an attorney.
PEOPLE reached out to the Gulfport Police Department for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
Shane Basquill, 31, of Kiln, and 78-year-old Mary Anne Oberlies, of Gulfport, were identified as those killed in the shooting, WLOX reported, citing Harrison County coroner Brian Switzer.
Basquill was working at the store and Oberlies was a customer when the incident occurred at approximately 11:14 a.m. inside the AT&T store at Crossroads Mall on Monday, Sept. 7, WLOX and the Sun Herald reported.
Andrews is accused of pulling into the parking lot, exiting his vehicle, and firing one shot into the store before walking in and opening fire again, per the outlets.
Carl Musgrove told WLOX he entered the store shortly after the deadly shooting and was able to leave uninjured after hearing chilling words from Andrews.
"He said, 'You gonna have to get out of here. I'm killing everything in here,'" Musgrove said, adding that the shooter's demeanor was "calm."
Police said Andrews was taken into custody after allegedly fleeing the scene, and is being held without bond.
Footage shared by the news stations showed a police presence in the parking lot of the strip mall with police tape used to cordon off the scene.
Two more witnesses spoke with WLOX in a separate interview and said Basquill spent his last moments trying to protect those who were already in the store when Andrews arrived.
"Someone hollered Shane's name and he ran to the front door to try and lock the door and he," Courtney Ladner, who declined to be on-camera, said in an emotional interview. "Before he got to the door, the guy started shooting."

A motive for the fatal shooting has not yet been made public, and WLOX reported that Andrews did not have prior criminal history.
