Dirt is turning on one of Texas' buzziest new supermarkets. Asian supermarket chain H Mart continues progressing construction on its highly anticipated second store in Texas' capital city - and things are really starting to take shape.
It's been three years since H Mart first unveiled plans for its second location in Austin back in 2023. Those initial project filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation detailed a roughly $4 million grocery store slated for 5222 Burnet Road, Suite 600, Austin, TX 78756. After years of delay, those plans updated to a late May completion date for construction of the 23,125-square-foot store.
Despite that preliminary timeline noted in project documents, company officials have yet to confirm when, exactly, the supermarket will finally open up to Austinites. In a message to MySA on Wednesday, September 9, H Mart officials did tease ahead to the possibility of new timeline details this fall.
"We still haven't received updates from our end. Hopefully we receive some updates in September or by October, but unfortunately we have no news to share so far," the message read. "Thank you for your understanding and patience!"
It's not only a buzz-worthy development coming down the pipeline for for Central Texans, but the Lone Star State as a whole. Texas is home to just seven H Marts nestled within the Austin, Dallas and Houston metros, and Austin's upcoming outpost along Burnet Road will mark the eighth in the company's Lone Star repertoire.
The upcoming shop comes nearly a decade after the chain's inaugural debut in Austin back in February 2018. As for San Antonians who are fans of the brand? They'll unfortunately need to keep holding their breath over any potential H Mart plans in store for the Alamo City.
"We do receive a high volume of inquiries and enthusiasm from the San Antonio community, and it's certainly an area we would love to be in at some point," store officials previously told MySA in late November 2025. "There are many contributing factors and often long wait times involved in securing the right location for a new store, and these variables can influence our timeline. Unfortunately, for now, we don't have any additional insights on our end."
