Getting around one of San Antonio's busiest highway interchanges could get tricky this weekend as another round of major construction ramps up.
The Texas Department of Transportation is closing portions of the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange through Monday, September 14, as crews set bridge beams for the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, according to a TxDOT announcement.
During daytime hours Saturday and Sunday, from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., eastbound Loop 1604 mainlanes will close at I-10. Westbound Loop 1604, both directions of I-10 and all frontage roads and flyover ramps will remain open.
The interchange will see more extensive closures overnight. TxDOT's closure plan shows eastbound Loop 1604 mainlanes will close at the interchange from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday through Monday. Both directions of I-10 will also close at Loop 1604, along with the eastbound and westbound I-10 frontage roads.
Westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes and both Loop 1604 frontage roads will remain open overnight. All flyover ramps will also remain open.
Drivers traveling through the area near The Rim, La Cantera and UTSA should give themselves extra time and follow posted detour signs. Access to businesses will remain available throughout the weekend closures.
The work is part of the ongoing Loop 1604 North Expansion Project. Drivers can check DriveTexas for the latest real-time road conditions before heading out, according to announcement.
