Another Polish mountaineer has died in an accident in the High Tatra mountains that straddle Poland and Slovakia.
The climber, 35, fell from a steep rock face below Gerlach Peak, the Czech news agency CTK reported on Sunday, citing the Slovak mountain rescue service.
The deceased climber's 40-year-old companion witnessed the accident. He was unable to continue the descent unaided afterwards.
A rescue helicopter landed at the scene but could only confirm the man's death. The crew brought the body and the surviving hiker to Stary Smokovec, one of the main towns in the central part of the High Tatras in northern Slovakia.
At 2,655 metres, Gerlach Peak is the highest peak in the High Tatras.
At the beginning of August, two Polish climbers died in accidents on the Slovak side of the High Tatras. Also at that time, two other Polish climbers died while hiking on the Polish side of the mountain range.
