A high-speed chase in northwest Harris County after a parking lot takeover ended in a deadly crash, authorities said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said a man was killed and three other people were taken to the hospital for their injuries and have since been released.

ABC13 crews captured the active scene near Ella Boulevard in northwest Harris County early Monday morning.

Deputies said this all stemmed from a parking lot takeover near Veterans Memorial Drive. They said they were called out to the scene just after 11 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a driver doing donuts in the parking lot.

Inside the car were as many as five people, with most of them likely being juveniles, the sheriff's office said.

"The patrol unit tried to do a traffic stop on the vehicle to stop the behavior. This vehicle fled from law enforcement officers," Capt. Aric Albers with HCSO said.

That's when deputies said the driver took off at a high rate of speed south on Ella Boulevard before losing control and crashing near Westfield High School.

"While it was driving, the driver of the vehicle turned his headlights off - of course, during nighttime hours here - and at this location, it looks like they failed to drive in a single lane and probably didn't see the curb, which is in the median of this roadway on Ella Boulevard," Albers said. "The vehicle ended up turning over, rotating onto its roof, its side, and back to its regular standing up position."

Investigators say 24-year-old Jonathan Garcia Molina flew out of the vehicle and died.

Two 17-year-old girls and an 18-year-old boy were also hurt, and deputies are working to figure out who was driving.

Law enforcement says they found guns in the vehicle.

ABC13 asked the sheriff's office what they're doing about these reported street takeovers. HCSO responded that it has proactive units that work to tackle these events and highway racing.

Eyewitness News also asked how fast the driver was going and when deputies are required to call off a chase; the sheriff's office said it's still under investigation.
