The Gonzales City Council approved multiple special event permits and introduced an ordinance to create the Veterans Economic Development District.
As noted during the Sept. 14 meeting at city hall, a public hearing will be set for Oct. 12 after notices are published in the Gonzales Weekly Citizen, the official journal.
A resolution would need to be passed to designate a sales tax increment, according to attorney Adam Parker, who addressed the council.
The one being contemplated is the one percent tax approved by voters in 2005 for economic development purposes, he said.
In other matters, the special permits approved by the council included:
Approved an application submitted by William Thornton/Ascension Baptist Church requesting to use Jambalaya Park Oct. 17 from 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., to host a community outreach event.
Approved an application submitted by Tina Rios/Help and Hope of Ascension requesting to host a Domestic Violence Awareness Community Bike Ride and to use Jambalaya Park and the Amphitheater for a Domestic Violence Awareness Program Oct. 24, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Approved an application submitted by Rev. Brandi Burl and Rev. Dr. Graylin Burl, Sr./East Ascension Ministers' Alliance requesting to use Tee Joe Park Nov. 7, from 8 a.m.–5 p.m., to host the third annual Fall Fest and Car Show.
Approved an application submitted by Karen Zimmerman/Each Day A New Beginning requesting to host a Jambalaya Fundraiser Nov. 21 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., at the St. Theresa parking lot across from the church.
