A motorcyclist has died after crashing on an elevated exit ramp from I-95 and falling over onto the street below in Philadelphia's Northern Liberties section.

It happened just before 11 p.m. on Monday.

Philadelphia police say they found the victim, identified as 33-year-old Karl Kirschner from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, unresponsive at the intersection of Callowhill and 2nd streets, still wearing his motorcycle helmet.

After searching the area for his motorcycle, Pennsylvania State Police located it on the right shoulder of the elevated ramp from I-95 south to I-676 west.

Police say their investigation revealed Kirschner crashed on the ramp and was ejected from his motorcycle, landing on the street below.

He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where he later died.

It's unclear if any other vehicles were involved or what caused the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
