A pickup truck veered off Interstate 95, down the embankment and struck a person walking on the side of Lem Turner Road killing him on scene in Jacksonville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

It happened about 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. The victim's name, age and hometown were not available. The driver as 45 from Fernandina Beach and also had some injuries, according to the Highway Patrol crash report. It was unclear what caused him to crash.

A witness told Times-Union news partner First Coast News that the truck came barreling down the interstate, bounced on the side of the road, flipped over and slammed against the wall of the overpass and then noticed someone was hit.

The crash remains under investigation.
